MOFFAT Alfred

MOFFAT Alfred (4 December 1863, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom - 6 June 1950, Fulham, London), Scottish musician, composer and music collector. He attended the Edinburgh Collegiate School and later studied musical composition in Berlin with Ludwig Bussler for five years. He remained in Berlin for another six years and wrote compositions for German music publishers. He returned to London in the late 1890s and devoted himself to rediscovering British violinists of the late 18th century and earlier. Most importantly, he edited Schott’s Kammersonaten series and promoted Novel’s series of Old English Violin Music. Fulham in London on 6 June 1950 at the age of 86.
