Theatrical recital
SHEPHERD'S PLAY 2025 / PASTIRSKA IGRA 2025
based on motifs by Andrej Šuster Drabosnjak (1768-1825)
200 years after the death of Andrej Šuster Drabosnjak (22. 12. 1825), the Shepherd's Play came to life again on the local stage in the parish church in Loče/Latschach (A) (21.12. 2025, 16.00).
The performance, adapted to the times, enriched with singing and Christmas melodies, was presented in the local Rožan dialect as a theatrical recital by groups operating within the framework of the Slovenian Cultural Society Jepa-Baško jezero. The director of the performance is Alenka Hain, and she is assisted by Aleksander Tolmaier in various scenes. The Shepherd's Play or Christmas Play depicts the angelic announcement to Mary, the command of Emperor Augustus, the search for a place to stay, the shepherds by the stable, the visit of the three kings, the flight to Egypt, the appearance of a non-evangelical murderer and finally the massacre of innocent children. The text of the play is the oldest known relatively authentic transcript of Drabosnjak's Shepherd's Play. It was written before 1814. The Shepherd's Play was adapted from an old manuscript by Andrej Šuster Drabosnjak for the 1987 theatrical holiday by Herta Maurer Lausegger. It will be performed by the theater groups Jepca, mladi akzent, skupina akzent and the tamburitza ensemble Loče. Špela Filipič was on the organ.
