MLAKAR Klara
MLAKAR Klara, born in 1999, concentrates in her music on researching the human voice and exploring the subtle musical structures and capabilities of instruments. He studies composition at Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany) in the class of prof. Markus Hechtle and prof. dr. h.c. Wolfgang Rihm, where she went after graduating from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in composition and music theory at the Academy of Music in the class of prof. Vito Žuraj. She is a member of the Chamber Choir of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana under the direction of Ambrož Čopi.
She began her musical career in the local choir of St. Peter Radeče, Slovenia and at the Music School Laško-Radeče with playing the violin and piano, and continued at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana with studies in the musical theory at an intermediate level and classical singing at a lower level. In addition to studying in Slovenia, she also attended organ lessons at the Institute of St. Stanislav in Šentvid with prof. Dalibor Miklavčič.
She regularly attends additional musical training (Summer Music Camp in Murska Sobota, Slovenia (2017-2019), Orchestra Conducting School within the framework of JSKD and ZSG (2015)), and deepens her knowledge with renowned composers such as Dušan Bavdek, Nenad Firšt, Marko Mihevc, Ambrož Čopi, Gary Carpenter, Stephen McNeff, Johannes Caspar Walter, Johannes Kalitzke, Annesly Black and Iris ter Schiphorst. She also participated in solfeggio competitions (TEMSIG 2015/2016, MTS/ISC 2019) and composition competitions. Recently, she drew attention to herself in the world of choral music with a special award for a promising composer under the age of 25 for a piece performed at the Naša pesem / Our Song 2022 competition; with special award for the best composition written by a composer born after 14.1.1997 on the International choir competition in Preveza (Greece); with the first prize in the Audience category at APZ Maribor choral composition competition - Pójmo zaj, pojdimo zdaj / Let's Sing Now, Let's Go Now; with first prize in the 2nd competition for new compositions by Aegis Carminis 2021 and a special award for a promising young female composer, born after 1996; and with the first prize for the composition Sneg pada / Snow's Falling at the 2nd MePZ choral composition competition of the Obala Mixed Choir, Koper, Slovenia.
As a composer, she collaborates with many recognizable artistic names; Slowind, Kammerchor der Christuskirche Karlsruhe (conductors Peter Gortner and Benjamin Hartmann), Chamber String Orchestra of the Slovenian Philharmonic, Sonc festival (artistic directors Tanja Sonc and Boštjan Lipovšek), New Music Forum Ljubljana, Academic Choir Maribor, Chamber Choir of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana, Academic Choir of the University of Primorska, Chamber Choir of the Academy of Music University of Ljubljana, Girls' Choir of the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana, Youth Choir of the Camp of Young Singers of Primorska, Girls' Choir of Music School Koper, Mixed Choir of St. Nikolaj Litija, Girls' Choir of the Diocesan Classical High School Ljubljana, Mixed Choir VIVA Brežice, Glasbena Matica Ljubljana, Grex Symphoniacorum Orchestra, Kranj Gymnasium Orchestra and others. In the academic year 2019/2020, she was an active participant in the one-year program "Classwork project” with Ensemble Recherche from Freiburg.
