KUMAR Aldo (20.X.1954, Travnik near Idrija), Slovene composer, graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 1995 after studying pedagogy. He studied composition in Ljubljana with Professor Alojz Srebotnjak and later went to courses in Poland with B. Schaeffer and K. Meyer.
His composing oeuvre includes choral, solo, chamber, vocal-instrumental, stage and film music. He has collaborated with various conductors: Anton Nanut, Uroš Lajovic, Marko Munih, Marko Letonja, En Shao and others. Kumar's compositions have been performed on many Slovenian and foreign concert stages. Most notable was the hosting of the Slovenian Philharmonic in St Petersburg with composition Strastra for orchestra and organ in September 2002.
His compositions have been recorded on numerous compilations and three uthor's CDs. He is the author of a number of choral compositions that have become a permanent repertoire of the most renowned Slovenian choirs under the direction of conductors Matjaž Šček, Stojan Kuret, Martina Batič, Ambroz Čopi, Vocal group Gallina (Ana Erčulj) and many others.
Aldo Kumar is Associate Professor at the Academy of Theater, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana. He cooperates with many theater companies in the theater: Drama SNG Ljubljana, Drama SNG Maribor, Primorsko gledališče Nova Gorica, MGL Ljubljana, SLG Celje, Slovenian Youth Theater Ljubljana, ....
He has received several awards for his work, including the Golden Bird Award (1984), the Pirnat Award (1980), the Sterijevo Pozorje Award for scenic music (1987), the first Film Music Award at the Montagna International Film Festival in Trento, Italy (2000), and the Ensemble Slovenicum Award, APZ Tone Tomšič Award, Borštnik Award for theatre music and Prešeren Fund Award (2010).
